Betty Jackson Counseling Services provides outpatient services in a safe and loving environment to work things out. Many people who suffer from having a mental health condition often do not want to talk about it. But mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of, and it is just a medical condition that needs attention. Mental health conditions are treatable. We are continually expanding our understanding of how the human brain works, and the good thing is treatment is available to help successfully manage mental health conditions.

Mental illness does not discriminate; it can affect anyone regardless of age, gender, geography, income, social status, race, ethnicity, religion/spirituality, sexual orientation, background, or other aspects of cultural identity. Mental health is the foundation for emotions, thinking, communication, learning, resilience, hope and self-esteem. Mental health is also key to healthy relationships, personal, emotional well-being and is a key component of overall well-being. Children, teens, and adults are provided with workable solutions to their problems such as self-esteem, familial difficulties, depression,  anxiety, anger addictions, trauma recovery, grief and loss, substance abuse, and stress management etc.

We accept Medicaid and Private Insurance and Fee for Service as payment for treatment services. Self-referrals are always welcome. Indigent clients can also receive referrals to other community-based treatment providers that can assist with their needs. Pro-bono cases will be taken on a case-by-case basis. BJCS’s goal is to access, treat, and work to facilitate change in return for wellness for the individual and family participating in treatment services.

Betty Jackson Counseling Services:

Peer Recovery Support Services

The Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) fulfills a unique role in the support and recovery from mental illness and substance abuse disorders. Peer specialists work with peers to connect them to resources in the community. They coach their peers around how to independently identify needs and access resources. In addition, peer specialists advocate for their peers in treatment settings and within the community.

Case Management Services

A case manager is trained to help clients access “external resources.” Case management is defined as a health care process in which a professional helps a patient or client develop a plan that coordinates and integrates the support services that the patient/client needs to optimize the healthcare and psychosocial possible goals and outcomes.

Family Therapy

Family therapy is a form of group psychotherapy (talk therapy) that focuses on the improvement of interfamilial relationships and behaviors. A family unit is a group of people who care about each other. In family therapy, a group can consist of many different combinations of loved ones, such as parents/guardians and their children, siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends, kinship caregivers, etc.

Individual Therapy

Individual counseling (sometimes called psychotherapy, talk therapy, or treatment) is a process through which clients work one-on-one with a trained mental health clinician in a safe, caring, and confidential environment.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is the treatment of multiple patients at once by one or more healthcare providers. It can be used to treat a variety of conditions including but not limited to emotional trauma, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Psychosocial Rehabilitative Services

The Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) program supports people in learning more about their mental illnesses and developing coping skills for symptom management to work toward personal growth and recovery, primarily through skill-building activities and one on one support.

Psychological Testing

A psychological evaluation can enhance you or your loved one’s therapy experiences. This type of evaluation provides information about the way one thinks, feels, and behaves. Psychological assessments provide individuals with an opportunity to gain insight about themselves, including strengths and challenges, motivations, interests, and traits that can enhance personal growth. This process provides levels of information about a client’s functioning that may not be explored otherwise. Additionally, assessments provide information about treatment targets to ensure important issues are being addressed by the provider. Assessments can be helpful to challenge the diagnosis they have provided and to ensure the treatment they are offering is useful. In addition, assessments can help determine the appropriate intensity of treatment that is needed. Overall, the assessment can empower both clients and clinicians by providing a greater sense of self understanding and by ensuring that treatment is tailored to each individual’s strengths and tendencies.

Drug and Alcohol Assessments (ADSAC)

The ADSAC (Alcohol Drug Substance Abuse Course) assessment, also known as DUI or substance abuse assessment, is a standardized assessment that helps determine the most appropriate level of intervention for each individual’s situation. Completing the assessment is an essential first step towards meeting legal requirements often set by the court, attorneys, probation, Department of Public Safety etc.
